County jurisdiction & maintenance?

Over the July 4th weekend a car crashed into the barrier rail at the small Stelle Avenue bridge in Cedarbrook Park. Although police responded quickly, according to Sandra Gurshman at Tuesday's City Council meeting, it took quite some time for warning barriers to be placed at the location.

COMMENT: We think the delay may be a jurisdictional issue. Cedarbrook Park is part of the Union County Park system and the bridge may be administered by the county. Nonetheless, whether the bridge is city or county maintained, when we went to the scene one thing was obvious: the broken guard rail was so rusty it might not have held up if it had been hit by a speeding bicyclist.
