Church Seeks Approvals for Celebration
Tonight's City Council agenda notation about the proposed events at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church is a bit misleading.
Two processions are planned to honor the Virgen de Guadalupe, one at noon on Sunday, Dec. 9 and one at 10:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 11. There will also be a passing of a torch on Monday, Dec. 10 and on Tuesday, Dec. 11. All the other parts of the celebration will be in the church or on church grounds.
This is a very important holiday for a large number of Mexican and Latin American people now living here and echoes what is done in their homelands to honor La Virgen de Guadalupe, the Queen of the Americas.
I hope things can be worked out to the satisfaction of all.
