Senior Center Close-Up
Here is a section of the ground floor at 400 East Front Street, where the new senior center is taking shape. Mayor Sharon Robinson-Briggs is predicting completion by May.
"The Monarch," as the project is called, will also include 63 condos on three upper floors. Ground was broken in July 2007, but developer Glen Fishman has missed three stated deadlines for completion.
This banner has names of officials from 2007. Rayland Van Blake went on to the Union County Freeholder Board and Don Davis and Harold Gibson lost 2008 elections to Adrian Mapp and Annie McWilliams. Terms of the mayor and Fourth Ward Councilman Elliott Simmons expire December 31.
According to a recent article in the Courier News real estate section, condo prices now start at $199,000. The initial projected price was $300,000.

Something good is reported in the newspaper and you have to go and poop all over it. Don't you?
Using words like "it is not clear....".
Why report something if it is "not clear...."? Why not get the facts first. Then report it?
TD
My, my, Bernice. You seem to have struck a nerve. Well, I think the TD comment is why we are in such bad straights in Plainfield. Let's not worry about the details like the center is not finished in time, or the condo's are selling about 40% less than promised, let's kill the messenger.
You keep it up, girl. Because of these blogs, Plainfield is in for a change!!!! And a good one at that.
TD is right. Obviously 2:50pm is part of the Dan Damon and Mapp crowd.
Happy to see Plainfield pooped on. Dan does it everyday. Now Bernice is doing it.
And the peanut gallery goes wild with excitement. Yahhhh!
No real leadership here. Just a lot of poop.
Hey Bernice,
Ignore the poopmeisters here. Frankly I wish you would be harder on issue of development in town. Thank god this is the only monstrosity that has broken ground under Sharon's administration. Beyond being a few days late and the price a few dollars short, this thing is grossly over-sized for the lot, it has no setbacks whatsoever, and the construction I've observed is cheap. I predict it will be an eyesore within 20 years. The terrible state of the economy will further hurt the sales of the condos. I think we're looking at a giant rental property.
So...you simply state facts and get criticized for it??? Hmmmmmmm....me thinks Mayor Jerry & Mayor Sharon's fan club should be working instead of reading your BLog...
To Rob: Some people think it is OK to tell others what to do, while they themselves are doing the very thing.
That is known as double standards. The Republicans are particularly adapt at them. Maybe the New Dems will adopt the slogan of "Moral Majority" for this campaign and call in Newt.
In the meantime, me thinks Rob should take his own advice about not commenting on bogs during working hours.
Someone is getting upset about the lack of credibility this center and its endorsers have.
Why get so defensive? Truth is never easier to digest if the one receiving it is on the side of the sinners.
But don't worry. We are praying hard for the sake of the Queen City, the dems, the new dems, the seudo-dems, and even those pesky republicans that call themselves dems.
