Shoutout to Jackie

This must be a friend of Roofus. He and others are holding down the fort on Gavett Place. If you get a chance, peek in and check out the phone covered in paw prints. There is fresh food and water, even though the building has changed hands.

Construction on the proposed new building won't start until sometime in 2010, so the feline population rules until then.

I want this cat. He looks so much like our 16 year old Russian Blue.

What is amazing in this picture is the fact that if the building is inhabited as it appears to be, papers are still sitting on a desk, as if a disaster had sweep away any human life of that office...surreal, quite surreal, when you think that life is still pretty much going around steps away from this place.

The cats markings and coloration suggests that it is at least part Abby".

Did I hear a shout out? Is that the old Budget Rental office? There's a huge black and white cat (not Roofus) in there, too. I haven't gone right right up to the window, but I've seen bags of cat food and I believe the older gentleman who ran the place for years is still feeding the ferals.

Alas, for every cat as beautiful as this one and as clever as Roofus in that block, there are a dozen who seem quite sickly.

They're a smart lot, though. I've watched them from the bus stop at the corner of Gavett and North -- they actually look both ways before crossing! Once a car was parked with its lights on and I watched three different cats change their path to cross in back of it, not in front.

My own cat Scherzo wouldn't last ten minutes on the streets. She'd hunker down, quiver, and pitifully cry for help.

I'm happy you didn't take a total leave from the blog. While I follow the politics and school happenings through here, I love the slices of life, too. And, Plainfield has lots of great slices of life!
