Community Garden Planted

No sooner had volunteers completed planting of the butterfly garden at Grace Episcopal Church than the skies opened and rain poured down. Due to an emergency in our building, I could not stay on for the arrival of children in the 21st Century After-School Program, but I'm sure they enjoyed the cookout celebrating completion of the garden. Anchored by a butterfly bush at the center, the garden contains a mix of colorful annuals and perennials. According to Rev. Carolyn Eklund, Jersey Cares volunteers will be constructing benches there on May 20.

The celebration Friday was part of a statewide "Celebrate Afterschool! Outdoors in the Garden State" event.
