No sooner had volunteers completed planting of the butterfly garden at Grace Episcopal Church than the skies opened and rain poured down. Due to an emergency in our building, I could not stay on for the arrival of children in the 21st Century After-School Program, but I'm sure they enjoyed the cookout celebrating completion of the garden. Anchored by a butterfly bush at the center, the garden contains a mix of colorful annuals and perennials. According to Rev.
Carolyn Eklund, Jersey Cares volunteers will be constructing benches there on May 20.
The celebration Friday was part of a statewide "Celebrate Afterschool! Outdoors in the Garden State" event.
