PBA Vote of No Confidence

In a Jan. 26 letter from the Plainfield Police Benevolent Association Local 19 to Police Director Martin Hellwig, attorneys for the union outline several reasons for the vote that have nothing to do with the recent allegations against the director.

The letter cites "an atmosphere of mistrust, disinformation and disorganization" with references to unfulfilled promises of new police vehicles and changes to uniforms.

In addition, the letter notes a plan to demote three captains, claiming the director's announcement was not corroborated by other city officials.

Further, six new officers were hired despite an alleged layoff/demotion plan having been submitted to the Civil Service Commission.

Although the legal representives allude to many more reasons for a lack of confidence in the director's leadership, the letter concludes with the comment, "Frankly, our members deserve to be treated with more respect - especially in light of their efforts in helping the City secure a record low crime rate in 2009."

Meanwhile, whatever the situation is with the allegations of impropriety, Plaintalker looked up the statutes on soliciting prostitution and was surprised to see how out-of-date they may be.

In years past, local police did make undercover busts by placing decoys on such local hot spots as the 1500 block of West Front Street where hookers did in fact violate state statute 2.C:34-1.1 by waving down cars and beckoning to people. So what if somebody nowadays arranges a "hook-up" online?

Much tidier, but just as illegal?

Time will tell.

To me it is thee same premise as we have all seen on "To Catch A Predator" except a juvenile is not involved. This incident is not "an attempt to solicit" He actually made the contact. In my mind, making arrangements to meet with a prostitute on-line is the same as doing it in person. If you or I did this in our workplace, we surely would have been terminated. And what does he get? A 3 day suspension.

It should have been at least 6 1/2 days - One for each inch he claims.

Innocent until proven guilty is the foundation of our criminal law system. Allegations, whatever the motives for making them, don't mean a thing without a thorough investigation and proof. Why are some folks so quick to jump to conclusions? Could there be a political motive? (Oh no, not in Plainfield!)

Where is the outcry from the so called seeker of truth Blog administrators (Plainfield Talker, Old Doc and Dan Damon)? Is their outcry muted because this time the wrong doer is White and they are White? Why dont you see the same innuendos and rumors posted as we saw with the Mayor, City Administrators, Jerry Green and Dr Gallon. Do you see a pattern here. The head bloggers need to look in the mirror and ask the hard question. Where is my Out cry? Any othersider can see this is wrong, especially from the Director who job is built on integrity and trust. Without Trust and Integrity, what's left but a Politician

To 12:23 Did you read my blog on Feb.14 ? I believe that I stated that the public deserved to be informed by administration. That the punishment did not fit the alluded to infraction. On the 19th I stated thatthe withholding of info will have a backlash. Dan posted a link to an online publication that reported a "detail story" without evidence of official conformation.

Your own bigotry is evident by your using the racist card.

Do not damn the bloggers who will not persecute an individual on "leaked" but unconfirmed stories. The truth when it comes out and official reaction will be time if needed for blogger comments. I don't think that we will need to remark, what will be will speak for itself.

@Old DOC, I am far from a bigot but I understand patterns. I look for common denominators. Whenever it is pointed out you then attempt to attack the blogger. Dispute my conclusion but name calling is way beneath you. Unless I hit a nerve. Dan, only pointed to the news article but didnt criticize or make anecdotal comments. Instead you cower in your corners waiting. Waiting for what? You are the ones we expect to speak truth to power. You had no problem typing truth to power when they dont look like you. Your muted comments are deafening to bloggers like me. Why are you attacking me? I am not the one that brings shame to your community.

Doc, I also notice the silence. Where are the bloggers that normally complain about taxpayers dollars being wasted? I think using a govt vehicle, during government time, while you are the Govt clock, should has at least warranted a couple of sentences from Bernice and Dan, without knowing the specifics.

@Doc, you are not adding to the discussion you are just trying to label me to attempt to minimize and marginalize my comments. Old trick; The "old slight of hand" distraction. I mispoke, I am not literally a blogger. I just comment. Although the recent events makes me think twice about starting my own Blog. I dont know which gets my blood boiling more, liars or hypocrites.
