The Plainfield Four
Support is building for four members of the People's Organization for Progress who were arrested while protesting outside the Army recruiting office on East Front Street recently.
On Monday night, activist Stephanie Alexander called for their exoneration and told the City Council, "They are peaceful people."
Ellen Witt of the Central Jersey Coalition Against Endless War also spoke in support of the group. The New Brunswick resident called on the council to change laws that require a $10 permit and set other limits on demonstrations, calling the rules unconstitutional.
Today (Dec. 4, 2007) POP leader Larry Hamm spoke on WBAI, urging people to attend the group's court hearing at 9 a.m. Dec. 19 in Municipal Court, 325 Watchung Ave. Hamm said there will be a rally at 11 a.m. Dec. 15 at the same spot where the four were arrested.
