From Jerry Green's Page, September 2008: "Last election made it clear to me that the vast majority of the voters are in AGREEMENT with me. Of the 48,000 residents in the city of Plainfield, 18,000 of them are eligible to vote. Of that number, only FIVE HUNDRED voted against me. So what does that say about how the community feels about my leadership proficiency? You do the math."
From Plaintalker, November 2007 : "Despite the mailing and Election Day handouts to vote Column A, Democrats appeared to pick and choose candidates on the slate. Democratic Party Chairman Jerry Green got 2,597 votes for another term in the state Assembly, but his running mate, incumbent Assemblywoman Linda Stender, got 2,798 and incumbent state Senator Nicholas Scutari got 2,820 in the city."
May we point out that voters only vote for somebody, not for or against. Also, only one-fifth of the eligible voters went to the Plainfield polls in November 2007.

Mr. Green also made quite a flap on his blog about certain council members who, he says, took campaign donations from an engineering firm whose founder pleaded guilty to bribery charges. We must assume that engineering firm is Schoor DePalma since Mr. Green doesn't mention the firm by name. HIS OWN RUNNING MATE LINDA STENDER reported campaign contributions from the very same Engineering Firm.
Mr. Green starts his blog by saying NJ is cracking down on corruption. Oh really? When? It is the work of the Federal government, not the NJ Attorney General's office.
well jerry green does not have my vote-and i hope a lot of people feel the same way.
Schoor is still getting paid for City work, and the new firm Remington is making bucks saying they have to fix their stuff. What ever happened to the idea of an engineer working for the City who lives in the City !!!
Jerry seems to forget the 2005 primary when I was one of two local challengers to his seat. My running mate and I each received just over 2,000 votes in Plainfield. And we were running "off the line" which is always a disadvantage.
Readers may recall that nasty campaign where the Democratic establishment poured several hundred thousand dollars into the Plainfield primary. Afterwards I did the math and that experience taught me that Jerry can be defeated with the right multi-community strategy.
Of course there needs to a candidate who is interested in running. If someone steps up s/he would give voters a choice rather than be presented with an uncontested candidacy who gets the win by default.

Jerry Green has now proven that he doesn't even understand how to read numbers! In the general election last year, he received about the same amount of votes that Robinson-Briggs got in her 2005 primary, when about 5,000 were cast. How come only 2,600 people came out to vote in a GENERAL election, where more votes are cast than in a primary. Any reasonable, intelligent person would be able to "do the math" and deduce that a total of 2,400 people did not cast a vote for Jerry Green. How does he conclude that because only 500 votes were cast in opposition to him, only 500 people voted against him?? I hope that Charlotte and Lesniak and the rest of the folks running Jerry realize that EVEN PLAINFIELD deserves better than this! What is also apparent here is the fact that Green is really on the defensive and is being reactive. Word is that Charlotte and Lesniak are concerned that this faltering administration and Jerry Green's continual loss of support could hurt the Dems, who count on Plainfield for votes. Names are supposedly being floated regarding next year's assembly race, especially if the 22nd district loses Stender to Congress. Is this why Green is protesting too much? Call Lesniak and Charlotte and let them know that we'll take ANYBODY over Green and Robinson-Briggs!
Regardless of these opinions.. the fact of the matter is that Jerry Green is still the Speaker Pro Tempore for the state of NJ.. and has been for some time.. if you dont like him, vote him out.. and as YOU have seen... he MUST be doing something right because of his relationships with SUCCESS in his municipalities..
so in the words of Mr. Green.. "You do the math"
Do you know what the "Speaker Pro Tempore" is? That's the guy who is in charge while Joe Roberts (or whoever is the Speaker) goes to the bathroom. Jerry Green has NEVER presided over the assembly. Give a dog a bone, that's "speaker pro tempore." Many people have attempted to vote him out, and it looks like Lesniak is finally seeing what a drag he is on the 22nd.
Mr. Saunders,
If you believe that Jerry Green has been successful in getting Plainfield up and running, you must also think it is OK to have weeds for a lawn, gum on the sidewalks, dead tress in your yard, and a house that looks abandoned.
Did all 18K vote? I think not. So you do the math.
