Ten Want BOE Seats

Six people filed for three three-year school board seats Monday and four more filed for a two-year unexpired term.

Those vying for the three-year seats in the April 21 election include incumbents Patricia I. Barksdale, Rasheed Abdul-Haqq, Lisa Logan Leach and appointee Joseph M. Ruffin Sr. Others are former City Councilwoman Joanne Hollis, who is the sister of Board of Education President Bridget Rivers; and Brenda Gilbert, a longtime activist who has run for elective office several times in past years.

Seeking the two-year unexpired term are Terence Williams, Tammy Westbrook, Katherine Peterson and Mahogany Hendricks. Westbrook sought nomination to the appointee seat now held by Ruffin. Hendricks is the daughter of former City Councilman Al Hendricks.
