Fourth Will Be in Halves

The city will hold the annual fireworks display on correctionThursday, July 2 to avoid overtime costs, while the parade will still take place on Saturday, July 4.

In addition, a concert will be omitted to save money.

Funding for the firewworks in Cedar Brook Park includes $8,282.50 for an agreement with Union County for use of the park and $13,500 to Garden State Fireworks for the big display. The expenditures will be up for a City Council vote at the regular meeting, 8 p.m. Monday in Municipal Court.

Council members are still awaiting a comprehensive breakdown from the administration of the total costs for all Fourth of July activities.

Wouldn't it make more sense to suspend the fireworks this year, put the money back in the budget and earmark it for the pension we need to repay? Since the mayor did nothing to reduce the 9.5% increase to property taxes, shouldn't we start saving money. If she is elected in November, how much do you think she will increase property taxes, which I assume will include the 13% operating costs for the "free" Senior Center?

Save on Overtime? You mean when they work time an a half on Thursday July 2nd it is cheaper than working time a half of Saturday July 4th ? [the Friday 3rd - Congress's designated holiday is the double time day] Or is this another 300% reduction formula?

I read Bernice Paglia’s blog today, June 10th, and I am shocked that she made such a distracting error. Here is a woman who is insanely critical of the way people speak as well as their grammar, and yet, in this blog, she made such a numbskull mistake.

She writes: “The city will hold the annual fireworks display on Thursday, June 2 to avoid overtime costs, while the parade will still take place on Saturday, July 4th.”

Now is this a senior moment, for June 2nd’s past, or does she not remember how to spell ‘July?’

One thing I’ve learned from Bernice is that before I’m critical of people in the way she is, I’ll be sure to hit the ‘does-this-make-sense’ button.

Doc and Bernice have so much in common that they really need to consider dating. By the subject matter alone of their blogs, they really do not have lives.

To 2:29PM - Good thing you chose to be anonymous. Why would you want to post such insulting drivel under your name? If you did, we could then examine everything you've written in order to call undue attention to a typographical error.

The best part of your age-biased comment about Bernice and Olddoc is that you too will be old some day (if you are lucky).

Bernice -

. . . you are GREAT and I love reading your blog! You actually posted Anonymous 2:29PM when you clearly have the power to utilize the 'does-this-make-sense' button and simply delete the perfect JERK.

Actually, nobody is perfect. Even God makes imperfections.

Speaking of imperfections . . . have you ever known Jerry to post any negative comments on his blog???

NOOOOO!!!

Why???!!!

Because there are just too DAMN MANY!!!

Anon at 2:29 -- Geez, when I read it earlier, it was obviously an error. As a city resident, I think Bernice is doing a great service to her fellow Plainfielders by posting all that she does about various happenings in town.

As for having a life, she seems to have a much more productive one than a rude anonymous commenter bashing folks on blogs.

Anonymous 2:29 you are so correct. Bernice should hang her hat up and simply walk off into the fields, lay down and die. Someone with such superior intellect such as you or Jerry Green or maybe if we're lucky Her Honor the Cheshire Cat will do Bernice's Blog. But, if I wanted a slanted, biased, inflammatory blog that made zero sense I would read Jerry's Blog or the Mayor's press releases. Or I could attend a Mayoral debate and watch her have a total meltdown befitting a five year old being denied a candy bar at the store. Annoymous..put your name or go away if you are going to write such nosense...or go work for the mayor she may be running out of humiliating ways to behave in public and she could use some help.
