Seen on a Walkabout

In the news - Connolly Properties headquarters is right next door to my humble abode.

A few blocks north on Park Avenue, what is Paramount putting in? Oh noes, as they say on LOLcat - another dollar store.

Somebody cleaned up the weeds and trash in this narrow yard behind a fence in the 300 block of Park Avenue.

But this spot at Park & North needs a cleanup.

The location of the city's first new commercial development in a decade shows no action since it was announced late last year. Yawn.

Under the Tepper's building, the city-owned portion is being worked on. Police dispatch and CCTV are supposed to go there.

Belgian blocks on Watchung Avenue? Bob Ferraro doesn't like it.

And outside City Hall, Plaintalker runs into Robert K. Graham Sr., aka "Mr. Plainfield." A chat ensues.
It's always interesting to take a walk around the center of the city.

Bernice,

When I worked at the public access station, I had a discussion with Mr. Bonaparte and Councilman Blanco about moving the station or creating Studio Space in the Tepper's ground/garden floor so that it would be ADA-compliant. When McGee (remember him?) took over, he stopped the discussion for reasons that I am still not sure about. This should be revisited before a final decision on the use of that space is made. The station has to be moved anyway so it makes sense to consider this. Rebecca

Dollar stores and nail salons... a prolific retail venue to bring the poeple streaming into Plfd. I saw the people cleaning the lot out weeks ago, but the trash still remains. Why??

Right across the street from the commercial redevelopment site you noted is new retail development completed in 2006. There were additional new retail/commercial buildings built on South Ave & W. Front St and the North Ave industrial area. There were also multiple rehabs of existing structures into new retail/commercial offerings both downtown and in other commercial areas. If you don't count these then there has not been any new commercial development in the city for decades not just 10 years.
