Haiti's Plight

Could the poverty and suffering of Haiti's people get any worse, many have asked in recent years. The answer was yes, when a massive earthquake ruined the capital and forever changed the lives of survivors.

In our church book club, we had read "Mountains Beyond Mountains" by Tracy Kidder, so our little group knew something of the heartbreaking conditions there before the earthquake. Click here to read what the author has to say about the current crisis.

Thanks Bernice for the link. As sad as it is to see the present devastation of Haiti one can't but get angry about the true cause of Haiti's devastation: men.

Poor construction and deforestation have been on my mind all this week as I watch with sadness the news. We need to do better when it comes to give aid, as it is proven than just giving money doesn't work, it is only through education and sharing resources and knowledge that this kind of situations can be avoided in the future. As the news say, Haiti's deaths are "stupid". Let's hope Haiti doesn't get forgotten once again in a couple of months.
