Another recruit, .Charles G. Martina Jr., 24, is a six-year Plainfield Rescue Squad member and the son of a police captain who retired in 2000 after 30 years’ service.

Others who will begin police academy training include Officer Adam C. Green, 24, who was a 10-year member of the Plainfield Rescue Squad; Officer Vincent M. Saggese, 23, a four-year member of the Police Auxiliary; Officer Danielle Walker, 24, a police dispatcher for four years; and Officer Michael J. Glowacki, 21, who served in the Police Auxiliary for two years.

The six officers will begin 21 weeks of training Monday (Oct. 17, 2005) at the Essex County Police Academy in Cedar Grove.

Walker is the sister of Police Officer Alana Walker and the daughter of 25-year city employee Kim Walker.

About 75 people attended the ceremony to welcome the new officers, an elite group that emerged from 24 initial applicants. The city sought to hire 11 officers, but stringent screenings left only the six successful candidates.

The officers took a special “Law Enforcement Oath of Honor” to ensure they will uphold a high ethical standard in their careers.
