Four File for BOE Vacancy
Four people met a deadline Wednesday to file petitions for a vacancy on the Board of Education.
They are Tammy Westbrook, 1229 Rose St.; Alicia Jones, 1300 Sunnyside Place; Pamela Skorupski, 928 Fernwood Ave.; and Joseph Ruffin Sr., 716 Sherman Ave., Business Administrator Gary Ottmann said.
The applicants had to present a one-page letter on why they want to serve and will be interviewed in public, possibly at the school board's business meeting, 7 p.m. Tuesday (Jan. 13, 2009) at the administration building, 1200 Myrtle Avenue.
The person selected to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Vickey Sheppard will serve until April, when Sheppard's two-year unexpired term will be up for election. Three three-year seats will also be on the April 21 ballot. Incumbents whose terms are up in April are Rasheed Abdul-Haqq, Patricia Barksdale and Lisa Logan-Leach.
