Special Meeting Tonight

The City Council will meet at 8 p.m. tonight in City Hall to authorize temporary funding to run the city as the new fiscal year begins today. The city is permitted by state law to appropriate temporary funding for three months while the budget is being prepared. After that, if no budget is passed, the council must authorize emergency appropriations each month until it is passed. The monthly amounts cannot be more than one-twelfth of the past year's budget figure.

Another resolution is up for passage at tonight's special meeting. It is for an "open end" lease agreement between the city and American LaFrance LLC for the use of "certain fire truck apparatus." Plaintalker does not recall this item being discussed in public previously, so council watchers will have to be there to find out what the equipment is.

At Thursday's special meeting, several items were put off for further discussion and council members asked whether any could be added to tonight's agenda, but the legal notice had already been sent to the newspapers and could not be modified due to lack of time to resubmit. At a special meeting, only those items posted in a legal notice may be discussed or acted upon.

The next regular agenda session will be held at 7:30 p.m. July 13 in City Hall Library, 515 Watchung Ave., and the next regular meeting will be at 8 p.m. July 20 in Municipal Court, 325 Watchung Ave.

Haste makes waste. I was rushing to file before the modem failed, which it did before i could post one more item. Had to start all over and do it later.
