A Sign of the Times

The Park Florist on Park Avenue is another casualty of the Muhlenberg closing, owner Maribel Gonzalez said.

"We're affected big-time," she said, noting the five to seven deliveries a day have dwindled to nothing.

The florist also supplied the service shop at Muhlenberg. Hoping to drum up some business, Gonzalez posted this sign outside her shop to let Plainfielders know they can still order flowers for loved ones who have been taken to JFK Medical Center in Edison.

A delivery there Friday took half an hour round-trip, in contrast to the five-minute trip down Park Avenue to Muhlenberg. Despite the distance, Gonzalez said she needs the business.

She'll be on the road for another reason connected to the Muhlenberg closing.

Her 75-year-old father's doctor is now based in Summit. Because her father only drives for short local errands, Gonzalez will now have to take him to Summit for medical appointments.
