Peck is Out, Search Starts Monday

Finance Director Douglas Peck has been fired from the position he held for the last eight months, city officials confirmed Monday.

City Administrator Marc Dashield cited "personnel issues" without further explanation except to say there was nothing "criminal or illegal" involved in the decision. Peck's last day will be Dec. 6.

Peck was the fifth person to be in charge of the Department of Administration, Finance, Health and Senior Services since Mayor Sharon Robinson-Briggs took office in 2006. To see his vision for the department, click here.

Peck's nomination along with an unprecedented $12,000 stipend to relocate raised eyebrows in April. It was never clear whether he actually relocated or just maintained a presence in New Jersey while attempting to relocate.

Plaintalker has an archive on Peck's activities here. Please disregard the last post in which "peck" brings up the frailties of myself and my staff to do more than hunt and peck at blog posts.

Looks like the Green/Briggs ship is sinking. What an embarassment. The true culprit for Plainfield's plight are the citizens for we voted, apparently without enough thought, the Green/Briggs team. Can we turn around our city? Yes we can! But it won't happen if we choose another pay-for-play pal of Assemblyman Jerry Green. For the word on the street is that Mayor Briggs will be dumped and repleced by councilman elect Adrian Mapp. God help us if that's the best we can do!
