On Development Costs

The city acquired and demolished several buildings to create the large new lot where the senior center/condo complex is located. The lots on the East Second Street side had homes, while on East Front Street there was a lawyer's office and a former landscape company. The six lots thus cleared were combined into one.

Similar clearings at public expense have happened at other sites. This is normally considered a necessary inducement to development, but it is a cost nonetheless.

The city named the Union County Improvement Authority its redevelopment agency in August 2006. All the costs for studies and legal work on agreements for proposed projects were supposed to be paid back from developers, but several of the projects faded away, such as the massive East Third/Richmond proposal. Will the city now have to reimburse the UCIA or will executive director Charlotte DeFilippo give Plainfield a pass on those billable hours? We'll find out someday.

You all are a sorry bunch. You complain when there are plans - now you complain when the plan do not move forward.

A lot of small minded people in town.

to 10:56...I am far from small minded. It is the small minded thinking in the city and above (JG)that prevent it from moving forward. Look at the rest on NJ and then look at Plfd. Even you could figure it out.
