OK, I have followed the advice of a devoted reader and set up a PayPal account.
It seems you can send a PayPal contribution to me at bernice.paglia "at" gmail.com and it will land in my new account.
I have been reporting on the blog since June 2005 with no compensation except the knowledge that I have been informing the public on issues that need citizen interest and input. If you appreciate the work, feel free to donate.

Reminder to those that would like to contribute to Bernice for her Blog efforts -
Paypal will take a small percentage of your money - Consider contacting Bernice directly for a maling address and send your donation directly to her.
Perhaps owners of businessess in town would like to advertise their business by supporting your blog with a donation in return for a small advertisement on the main page of your blog.
I know it's not suppose to be a money making project but what the heck - in today's world, every little bit helps.
Congrats... Be careful I suspect the City may try to implement an ordinance that would mandate that you register the blog. They might even try a license fee.
This is sort of an experiment. I used to contribute to Jim Hopkins at GannettBlog by sending checks. That is one model. Then there is AdSense. I don't know how to do original ads, nor would I want to add that commitment to blogging per se.
So we'll see how PayPal works, now that I have set it up. It was a nudge from a reader that got me into it. I am slow to try new things.
Yay, glad you took the step. Now you should put something in the sidebar about it so that those missing the post know.
Would love to work with you in starting a small Plainfield newspaper. What do you think?
To 9:55 a.m.: Been there, done that. I was a writer/editor/person of all work at the weekly Plainfield Today in the early 1980s. Copies are on file in the Plainfield Public Library's archive. Out of the parts of running a newspaper (editorial, advertising, production, circulation), the only part I like is writing. The blog form is perfect for me. I think the Plainfield Sports guy had in mind to create a newspaper and he has done well with getting advertising for his blog. Maybe he would give it a try.
But now that people can read blogs and newspapers on Blackberries, going back to the print model seems sort of outdated.
Just to note -- if a person has a checking account tied into PayPal already, sending a donation debiting that checking account to this blog will cost absolutely zilch (other than the donation itself) to either the sender or the recipient. There is a fee to send with a credit card, yes.
