Rentals in Rahway

I was just browsing through Rahway Rising, a blog that we should check often as so many of Rahway's developers also have projects here.

There was a post about Heartstone, which has proposed 12 condos here on West Front Street. Last time I looked the land was cleared. It is on the Tepper's block. I have to remember to get over there and see whether anything is going up yet.

Anyway, click here to read about the developer's new thoughts on condo vs. rental for his Rahway project.

Plainfield does not need more rentals!! It is a cop out for Plainfield to permit the senior building to go rental. When proposed, nobody but the devloper and the Plainfield governing body espoused fee ownershp. At that time, the market place gave signals that the timing was off by 4years. The housing cycle was over; a "bust" was about to occur. With half of Plainfield's population living in rental units (many in disrepair), why would Plainfield want or need more rental units when the ones we have only need responsible and loving care? Many if these houses are ripe for ownership as well.

Note that Weiner Lesniak is the attorney representing Renaissance at Rahway and the City Council president in Rahway is Jenny Wenson Maier, who is also the director of Public Works here in Plainfield. We cannot stress these connections more strongly. Plainfield can't afford to have more rental units, what about the tax impact for additional police, fire, schools?
