Lovely Native Flower at Cedar Brook Park

This cardinal flower is among many recent native plantings on the banks of the pond at Cedar Brook Park.

On Saturday, my neighbor and I also saw water hyacinth (Correction: Pickerel Weed), arrowhead, purple coneflower, black-eyed susans, a kind of butterfly weed, sedge, buttonbush and other new plants around the perimeter of the pond. The resident egret put on a show by taking off on its big wingspan to sail across the pond.

If you get a chance, take a walk around the pond. Go down Park Avenue to Pemberton Road and turn right to go through the park. There are several parking lots near the pond. It is a good example of a natural asset in the urban center.
