Latinos Honor Patron Saint

The faithful will show their devotion to Our Lady of Guadalupe, the Patroness of the Americas, starting Sunday with a procession accompanied by mariachis. The photo above is from a previous procession. This year's observance will begin at noon Sunday starting at the Plainfield Public Library parking lot. Marchers will proceed to St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church for a 1:30 p.m. Mass.

For the complete schedule, click here. The Dec. 12 Feast Day of the Virgen de Gaudalupe begins the night before with a procession, overnight songs called mananitas and then a 5 a.m. Mass.
It is a very important holiday, especially for those of Mexican heritage, whose number has increased significantly in Plainfield.
